there is a one page article in the current wt study mag, sept 2018 pg 22 with the title “do you know the time?”.
in that article it describes a number of different ways you can say the time is 1:30. it goes on to say “there are even places where that same time could be expressed as “half two,” meaning 30 minutes before two”.
what i would like to know is this, where in the world does “half 2” mean 1:30?
@LOLS Yeah, same in German. We say "halb zwei' (literally translates into "half two"). It's like a condensed way of saying half an hour 'til two.
Works even when expressing the 15 minute intervals (quarter past/quarter to). So, one forty-five would become "viertel vor zwei".

just wanted to share this funny thing.. so we have just been invited to a neighborhood xmas party to be held in the house of a lovely couple around the corner from us.. they bought the house a short time back from a jw who built it and lived there!.
so, we get to enjoy one of our first xmas parties as a couple, in the former house of a jw!.
now, that made me giggle.....

my aunt is a super uber jw, albeit a little more delusional than the standard issue jw.
she has 4 kids all who are out and never baptised, she's a widow now and sold the family home and has bought a new place and has plenty of cash in the bank.
my cousins are all very concerned because their mum has a new friend whos "anointed" and says jehovah has spoken to her and she will survive armageddon and so will her kids if she sticks close.. she has been paying out for holidays and vehicle repairs for this anointed sister and her extended family and my cousins are alarmed at whats going on and can see the situation for what it is.
So... you spoke to an elder about this crazy sister. That's like asking someone who believes in human/reptilian hybrids to correct a flat-earther's unreasonable thinking.
I can just picture that elder later that night...

You know what I'd like to do as an experiment? Sit down some JWs and ask them to get a load of this LDS talk that was given about the Mormon naysayers and outsiders. Highlight the paranoia and constricting thought control and censorship that is bestowed upon that minority group. Get the JWs to agree. Then casually ask the Witnesses what they think of the latest WT lawsuit lost in Montana.
Watch them scramble.

Like that part when the elder in your meeting said that whoever had written down a historical fact on Wikipedia that contradicted WT's chronology was possibly under the influence of demons?! Sheesh, if I ever saw that elder out on a lunch break, I'd smack the sandwich out of his hands. The reason? Whoever manufactured the bread he was eating possibly put a bit of poison in that specific batch in hopes of an elder somewhere taking a bite - that way, the demon-possessed baker can slow down the spreading of the good news when the elder is in hospital.

Stayed up 'til 02:00 listening to this. I'd initially planned to have a few minutes going on in the background while I prepared for bed, and then would listen to the rest in the morning...
But I was hooked.
Ben, that part where you laid your doubts out with supporting data that quashed WT's eschatological line-up, and the elder you looked up to responded with "so what?"...My jaw dropped too.
These people who claim to love truth, who claim to be in it - they're terrified of it. Similarly to your situation, it was the external response to my research that propelled me into awakening. The quaint assumption that we were surrounded by truth-seekers took an ominous turn when we realized that the people we love are actively participating in a LIE.
